Replica Luger Pistol By Denix

IMG_2283.JPG

The Luger Pistol Replica by Denix is an accurate non-firing reproduction of a classic handgun.

Known as the Pistole Parabellum, The P08 or just as the Luger, this is one of the most recognisable and iconic guns to come off the drawing board.

It was designed by Georg Luger and manufactured between 1898 and 1948. The famous version known as the P08 was produced by DWM and others such as W&F, Krieghoff, Simson, Mauser and Vickers.

The Luger with its unusual toggle action is best known for service with the German military in WW1 and WW2. It has been cast as a classic bad guy gun in many Hollywood movies due to its association with Nazi Germany in post-WW2 popular culture.

In WW1 the German Army issued and used the P08 as principal sidearm of all forces between 1914 and 1918 alongside other models such as the Mauser C96.  The Luger was the mainstay though with over 2 million issued during the war.

In 1913 the Kaiser approved the longer barrel version, the Lange Pistole 08 also known as the Artillery Luger for issue.  It was often used in conjunction with a wooden shoulder stock that also served as a holster as a form of carbine.

Stormtroopers would often use it with a 32 round snail magazine in close quarter trench fighting.

During the post-war and inter-war years the Luger was also exported to counties such as Finland, The Netherlands, Sweden and China where it was popular with Nationalist Officers.

In WW2 Lugers were once again issued to German Forces and just as in WW1, were prized as battlefield souvenirs by Allied soldiers. This was so much the case that Germans were known to booby trap Lugers to catch unwary souvenir hunters.

The all metal replica Luger pistol by Denix has a working action and magazine to bring this classic gun to life.

A replica Luger can make a wonderful addition to a man-cave or to a militaria display.  For stage and film productions the replica Luger can also serve as a useful prop or classic ‘bad guy’ handgun.
